AW - Dzień 12 - Studia w Australii - część 2/ DC - Day 12 - Study in Australia - part 2

I am halfway through my December challange. Sometimes it's very hard to be motivated and to start writing but once I write, it's hard to take me out of the keyboard :) I started to write about studying in Australia here and today it's the part 2 of my thoughts on that subject.

Studenckie życie /Student life

My university was huge but the amount of clubs was still impressive! There were at least 10 clubs for Chinese students (not to mention other Asian nationalistes), sport club, IT clubs, Women's Club and even religious assiociations which was very surprising for me, a person studying in a laic country before. Somehow, it worked ;) I went a few times for a meeting in Women's club, girls got nice ideas about organizing meeting with inspirational women or some movie nights, I regret that I didn't stay longer to enjoy that!
On the 1st day, the Student Union convinced us to become a member and pay 10$ fee, almost every foreign student subscribed. I got my subscription fee "back" after 2 first free BBQ organized on Thursdays during lunch break. The BBQ was for every student at the uni but the members got a special VIP section where the queue for food was shorter and you were able to grab free cider or beer. I am not telling you how "happy" I was during my afternoon classes ;)
And on Wednesdays they were serving a free breakfast as well!
As you can see, the student life was amazing! (and I didn't even mention the amazing trips they organized for us!)

Budynki i wyposażenie/Facilities

Udało mi się zaliczyć zajęcia praktyczne w "czystym pomieszczeniu", gdzie w Bordeaux moi koledzy muszą jechać aż do Tuluzy, by takie zajęcia odbyć!

There is not point in hidding it - the uni had a lot of impressive facilities. The cheapest coffee at the machine costed 2$ but you could drink a real one in one of the numerous cafes and grab a lunch in an amazing restaurant. I got my labs in a "clean room" while my colleagues in Bordeaux have to go to Toulouse to get this kind of room! Other chemistry labs were also awesome! The library was huge and was giving us access to everything that we needed.
And by the end of the semester, when we had our project presentation, I was surprised by the snacks given by the uni! (check out the last pic)

Egzaminy/Exams

I had only two exams - nothing compared to at least ten exams I used to have every semester i France. I didn't feel a lot of stress, especially that you just needed to work on the exams from previous years, I started studying a few days before and managed to get around 90%. This is definetely a mark impossible to have in France!
What suprised me the most, was the organisational part of the exams. They were taking place in Melbourne showgrounds, apparently the universites had to organize the exams out of the university, with surveillance people from outside as well. Around 1000 students could take the exam at the same time - from different courses. I found it funny that one of my exams was from 6pm till 8pm. As you can see on the picture below, I had the sunset before even starting the exam!

I know that you can think that I am over-rating studies in Australia but my Australian colleagues were paying around 7000$ per semester for their studies. As an exchange student I didn't have to pay anything so for sure I was less exigeant :)
If you want to listen to me talking about the studies in Australia, please check out the project made by my friend from Germany - here!
